The Magical Mobile Library
Once upon a time in Harris County, a magical library on wheels called the Curiosity Cruiser roamed the streets, bringing joy and knowledge to children everywhere. This super mobile library was filled with shelves upon shelves of books, ready to be opened and enjoyed by eager young readers.
At the helm of the Curiosity Cruiser were two lovable mascots, Owlbotron and Northtale. Owlbotron, a wise and friendly owl, guided the children through the vast array of books, encouraging them to explore new worlds and expand their imaginations. Northtale, a playful and adventurous fox, entertained the children with enchanting stories and encouraged them to create their own tales.
The Curiosity Cruiser was not only a library, but it was also a hub of learning and discovery. Alongside the books, it housed a state-of-the-art STEM program. Children gathered to engage in hands-on activities with artificial intelligence, virtual reality, circuitry, 3D printing, robotics, and more! They marveled at the wonders of science and technology, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
Not only did the children have a great time, but they also learned about potential careers in STEM fields. The Curiosity Cruiser sparked their imaginations and planted seeds of ambition, encouraging them to dream big and pursue their passions.
As the Curiosity Cruiser rolled into different neighborhoods, children flocked towards it, eager to dive into the world of books and explore the wonders of science. The mobile library became a beacon of knowledge, fostering a love for reading and nurturing young minds.
“Together, we can continue to make reality seem like only a fairy tale.”
Thanks to the Curiosity Cruiser, children across Harris County built their very own home libraries, immersed themselves in exciting and enriching opportunities to explore new concepts and develop new skills, and discovered the infinite possibilities of STEM. It was a magical journey, filled with laughter, learning, and endless possibilities.
We are proud to share that this is no fairy tale. For the past five years, thanks to our Ladies for Literacy Guild and the Harris County Public Library, thousands of traditionally underserved children have experienced the joy of and benefited from programs and resources made possible through the Curiosity Cruiser mobile library initiative right in their very own neighborhoods.
Together, we can continue to make reality seem like only a fairy tale.
Special thanks to Citgo, Crown Castle, Houston Children’s Charity, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Lester & Sue Smith Foundation, Oxy, Phillips 66 and PwC for making significant investments in the Curiosity Cruiser mobile library initiative and to the many, many generous individuals who have sponsored the Power of Literacy Luncheon hosted by our fabulous Ladies for Literacy Guild over the years.
